These massive anchors are used to secure fishing nets to the bottom of the sea.

At La Azohia the fishermen use a unique net called an "almabrada" to catch tuna fish.

La Cala

This is one of the fine beaches to the east of Puerto de Mazarrón.

The municipality has been awarded the coveted Blue Flag for water quality over successive years.

Peñas Blancas

From the top of one of the highest mountains on the coastline you can enjoy a magnificent view over Mazarron Bay.

The white cliffs of Peñas Blancas are a distinctive landmark.

Mazarron in Carnaval

Mazarron's Railway

This little train used to run between Mazarron and the Port.

The original function of the railway was to carry minerals from the mines in Mazarron to ships waiting in Puerto but it was soon adapted to carry passengers as well.

Countryside Windmills

To the Cartagena side of Mazarron Bay there are many windmills like this one.

They were mainly used for pumping water for irrigation, although this one was used to mill grain.

Puerto de Mazarrón 1950

See how much Puerto has changed over the last 50 years !

The card shows the old church (sadly, now demolished) and the High Street.
