Carnaval (no it's not a mis-spelling) is celebrated with great enthusiasm every year in Mazarron. The central figure is the villianous effigy of Don Carnal and his wife Doņa Cuaresma who represent evil and greed. There are always a good number of parties usually with live music by a local band or group, and usually for free !
The celebrations culminate with a fiesta, fireworks and the ceremonial burning of Don Carnal symbolising the driving out of evil influence, on the last night.
