Outings in Mazarron - Route No.9 |
|
DIFFICULTY:- THIS IS A LONG ROUTE AND SO CAN BE CONSIDERED DIFFICULT. THERE ARE SOME STEEP CLIMBS BUT THE TRACK IS EXCELLENT ALL THE WAY. |

1. Fit people could explore this route by mountain bike. The path begins at Mazarron Cemetery towards the village of Los Rincones in the lower slopes of Sierra del Algarrobo.
2. The track is in excellent condition throughout the route and here passes through an agricultural area with many pig and cattle farms.
3. At La Perdiz you will see the three peaks of Peñarrodada to the left, to the centre Pico del Algarrobo and to the right the more modest hills of Los Revertos. A great deal of reforestation has taken place here.
4. This alternative route towards Peñarrodada crosses Hoya de los Izquierdos and ends at Yeseras on the road connecting Mazarron and La Pinilla.
5. A strong climb through forest pines takes us to Collado lo Alto, the highest point on the track with an altitude of about 500 metres.
6. From here it is possible to climb to the summit of Algarrobo with an altitude of 713 metres, the highest point in the Municipality. Stunning views can be enjoyed from all the elevated points on this excursion.
7. The path now descends towards Marajon, a sparsely populated village with many buildings in ruins. The countryside is now of Cartagena, a flat well cultivate landscape which contrasts with some of the more arid zones of Mazarron.
