Outings in Mazarron - Route No.14 |
|
DIFFICULTY:- THE PATH IS ALMOST COMPLETELY FLAT AND CAN BE EXPLORED ON FOOT OR BY BICYCLE. NOT DIFFICULT. |

1. The path starts in Mazarron at La Carigüela, with Cabezo de Molinete behind. A magnificent mansion here was occupied by a Mayor of Mazarron in the 19th century.
2. A hollow area surrounded by the remains of mine workings is crossed before passing under the N332 road, following the Rambla de las Moreras.
3. For a short distance the path runs beside the road and then diverges towards San Telmo where it crosses the Rambla de los Rincones.
4. On one side we see the rambla with vegetation of ditch weeds, salt cedars and oleander, while on the other the organised agriculture under greenhouses which is so important to Mazarron's modern ecomomy.
5. The rambla gradually transforms into a seminatural wetland. This is an excellent spot for bird watching; European Coots, Royal Mallards, Common Garganeys, Storks, Avocets, Plovers, Lesser Egrets, Grey Herons, Eaglets and Kingfishers can all be found here at the appropriate time of year.
6. A swamp area between the mouth of the rambla and the sea has many plants typical of salt marshes.
7. The path leaves the rambla and heads towards Bolnuevo with it's old fishing cottages and fine beaches.
