Outings in Mazarron - Route No.12 |
|
DIFFICULTY:- THE ONLY DIFFICULT PART IS THE CLIMB UP TO EL TALYÓN. THERE ARE OTHER SHORT UPHILL SECTIONS. |

1. The start point is on the road joining Pastrana and Morata, just before Ugéjar, opposite Casa de la Venta.
2. A dirt track travels towards Rambla de Ugéjar and then starts to climb through abandoned fields. Opposite an irregation resevoir turn left into Barranco de la Cañada de Ugéjar.
3. The slope to Campico Peñuelas offers panoramic views of all the Mazarron area and beyond. Various citrus cultivations and greenhouses dot the landscape.
4. A steep slope passes an abandoned cottage of traditional construction. These self sufficeint units had their own ovens, wells etc, the remains of which can all be seen.
5. The view is of steppe countryside with the imposing hulk of Talyón towering 879 metres above.
6. A crossroads; to the left are the Minas de la Cueva Agua while to the right are Casas de la Cueva Agua.
7. Ruined houses once owned by rich families and their servants can be seen here.
8. Opposite the remains is the peak of Talayón. The climb to the top can be undertaken by following a path from here along the side of the mountain.
