Outings in Mazarron - Route No.11 |
|
DIFFICULTY:- AN ALMOST FLAT PATH PRESENTS NO DIFFICULTY |

1. The route starts at Km15 on the road from Mazarron to La Morata, in the Rambla del Cambron by a sign which points towards Casas de los Llanos. It is possible to take a car along the ravine to the base of the mountain or alternatively explore the whole route on foot or by bicycle.
2. The Rambla del Cambron slopes upwards and narrows as the mountain is approached and has typical vegetation for ravines in this area; ditch reed and oleander.
3. A magnificent view appears as we ascend the mountain, covering the whole district of Mazarron and beyond to the mountains of Cartagena and the South-western coast.
4. Metamorphic rocks with highlights of grey and silver crown the heights of Sierra Almenara.
5. Erosion has laid to waste attempts at reforestation and the arid vegetation typical of areas needing water has predominated.
6. At Casa del Campico are ruins farms and livestock buildings. There are still olives, almond and fig trees growing here.
7. The path travels through an impressive pine forest with many examples of varied vegetation. Elusive residents include foxes, squirrels and boars as well as many species of birds.
