	What About British TV Viewing In Spain ?? The main satellite that transmits UK programmes is focused tightly on the UK and in this region of Southern Spain we are on the very edge of the signal. The satellite also moves so as to power up its solar batteries and because of this some signals become weaker at various times of the day. The signal is also transmitted on 2 separate beams - Northern and Southern, the Northern beam being weaker than the Southern one. Therefore we require larger dishes to be installed in Spain than the little meshy ones used by Sky in the UK. Weather - it does rain in Spain and on those rainy cloudy days signal is affected ! This does not happen often, but you should be aware that UK TV in Spain at times is not perfect... If you want perfect British TV stay in England !!! Channel Transmissions - Some channels are occasionally moved to other satellites or beams and this can affect your station reception. You can loose or gain channels; this is entirely at the broadcasters discretion. The moving of satellites can some times affect viewers in the UK too.		Location, Location, Location Dish location can be critical, when buying a property don’t automatically assume you will be able to receive all the TV stations you want. If you are in a town house with the house facing the wrong way and houses either side shielding the satellite signal it may be impossible. We get calls from people out in the campo (country side !) saying "I'm not sure whether the signal will get here?". It's often better in larger open spaces, but beware of tall trees as they can be a nightmare. So location of property/ dish are very important factors when thinking of a satellite installation. It’s a good idea when purchasing a property and TV is important to you to have a site visit done before you buy to be sure TV is possible.

"BRITS ABROAD NEEDN'T BE BORED"


	Dish Sizes The minimum size dish required to receive BBC, ITV and CH4 is a 1.35m. This does have limitations ie BBC2 not available till late in the day but this is fine if you have a property that’s a 2nd home and TV is not of great importance to you. If you have a Sky subscription ie Sport, UK Gold, Sky One and are not bothered about the BBC/ ITV etc we can fit a much smaller dish but for the weaker mainstream UK channels a 1.35 dish is minimum. These can be floor or wall mounted. Recently a re-engineered 1.45 dish has become available and is far superior to the 1.35. We now only fit 1.35s where space is at a premium - the 1.45 is our mainstream smallest dish. The next sizes up are a 1.8 metre and 2.4 metre. These can only be floor mounted and we would usually suggest a concrete base being laid a as this is a large “sail” if the wind gets behind it. We could fix to a concrete terrace if the base was solid. We install a lot of 1.8 dishes; 2.4 are really for people who have Sky subscriptions and subscribe to movies as these are limited on 1.8 dishes. But it has to be said 2.4metre is sometimes over kill ! Also with any of the installations you get British radio and its great to listen to Wogan in the morning. 1.8s give excellent all round reception - overcoming most of the restrictions of a 1.35 or 1.45.

What About Digi Boxes And Viewing Cards?

There are basically two types of viewing card available:-

(a) Free to view cards (ftv) these decode the signal for all BBC/ ITV / CH 4 and 5 and many of the sky uncoded channels including news and radio. BBC and ITV are actually uncoded but all come under the FREESAT banner.

(b) Sky subscription card that you pay for monthly and opens many channels. There are over 90 sky packages available and these are listed on www.Sky.Com. Subscription price is the same as in the UK - however packs are more limited over here.

There are many makes and models of Sky digibox available. However not all of them work with the weak signals here in Southern Spain. If you have a digi box that you are planning to use in Spain enquire with us about its suitability. The Pace 2600/430N/440N range are the best

Additional Services - We can supply a basic digi-box but the ultimate Rolls Royce of digi-boxes is the Sky+ that gives you the ability to watch and record at the press of a button. You can pause live TV and the box is so simple to use ! The Sky + is only available with a premium pack Sky subscription.

Remote TV senders: - These little bits of kit send the signal from your main TV and digi-box to another TV they are great to use if you want to watch TV outside on your terrace or by the pool!!
